Cambridge College joins the Boston Women's Compact to close the Gender Wage Gap
Closing the gender pay inequity has been a slow process since the Equal Pay Act was signed in 1963. At that time women earned 59 cents on average for every dollar earned by men. While we’ve made some gains in narrowing the gap, fifty three years later women working full time still experience a gap of 20% from what men are paid. In Massachusetts, women earn 83% of what men earn, which is fairly significant progress, but definitely not sufficient to close this gap.
As a member of The 100 Talent: The Boston Women’s Compact, Cambridge College is one of over 50 companies in Boston that have voluntarily pledged their commitment to close this gender wage gap in the workplace. As a member of this Compact, the College commits to accomplishing three goals:
- Understanding the root causes of the wage gap
- Closing the Gap
- Evaluating Success
We are especially proud that the College is taking a stance in this important initiative and hope we can help ensure that tomorrow’s workplace will recognize the value that women bring to the workplace through equal pay and recognition.
