We are pleased to announce that Dr. Mary Garrity has been promoted to the position of Interim Dean in the School of Education, effective April 16, 2018.  Dr. Garrity brings to this position her expertise in the special education field and a long working relationship with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, which are beneficial to the College.

Dr. Garrity’s tenure with the College began in 2002 when she was hired as the Grant Manager for an Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) grant that the College had been awarded.  For this grant, she recruited educators to teach in urban schools.  Later, she served as a part-time faculty member in the Special Education Program.  This program has grown to encompass Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities, Applied Behavior Analysis, and Autism Specialist.  She taught courses and a practicum seminar and also observed and evaluated students in their practicum placements. Dr. Garrity currently serves as the Chair of the Special Education Programs and monitors the progress of students, providing them opportunities to develop the skills necessary to become licensed special educators in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  She also serves as the Chair of the Early Childhood and Elementary Education Program.

For approximately 30 years, Dr. Garrity served as an educator in the Saugus Public Schools, primarily in special education.  Most of that time was spent at the secondary level.  She also has experience in teaching students in general education classes from grades four through eight as well as high school social studies and photography.

Dr. Garrity earned degrees from the University of Massachusetts/Lowell (EdD), Salem State College (CAGS), Boston State College (MEd), and Emmanuel College (BA).  She is the author of several print, multi-media and research publications.  Dr. Garrity is a world traveler and an avid photographer.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Garrity on her promotion.
