Remembering Professor Leroy Kelly

It is with heavy hearts we announce that Professor Leroy L. Kelly, 74, a member of the faculty of the School of Psychology and Counseling since February 1996, passed away on June 15, 2016. 

Professor Kelly was a legendary professor for generations of substance abuse counselors in the Boston area.  He was a much-loved teacher, mentor, supervisor, advocate and guide to students and colleagues who were fortunate enough to know him.  His students remained in touch with him long after graduating from Cambridge College.

Professor Kelly started his career as a counselor at Middlesex Detox and went on to serve as Director of Alcohol Services at Spaulding Rehab in Boston; Community Outreach Coordinator at Norwood Hospital (NORCAP); and Manager of Counseling Services at Mount Auburn Hospital.  He was a founding member of the Massachusetts Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors (MAADAC). 

At Cambridge College, SOPC, Professor Kelly established the Alcohol and Drug Counseling program and the Center for Addictions Rehabilitation Studies (CARS), which offered a variety of educational and consultation programs to students in a CARS program and to the rehabilitation community of clients and professionals in the New England area.

Professor Kelly received the Cambridge College medal of recognition under past-President Mahesh Sharma on June 10, 2007.
